Role Overview: Payroll & Benefits Specialist
This is a fully remote role for someone based in the U.S. You’ll be the go-to person for managing payroll and employee benefits for a growing team spread across multiple states. You’ll work closely with HR, finance, and external vendors to make sure everything runs smoothly from paychecks to health insurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Process payroll for both hourly and salaried employees (bi-weekly and semi-monthly)
- Help managers approve timecards and track time-off
- Handle payroll taxes and register in new states as the company grows
- Manage health benefits, billing, and employee questions
- Work with brokers to ensure legal compliance
- Educate employees about their benefits and encourage usage
- Audit payroll and benefits data regularly
- Support open enrollment and year-end payroll tasks
- Improve internal resources and help systems scale with growth
What You’ll Need
- 2+ years of experience in payroll and benefits (multi-state preferred)
- Familiarity with timecards, leave policies, and employment laws
- Strong communication skills you’ll explain complex info in simple terms
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Comfortable with Excel/Google Sheets and HR tools (Rippling is a bonus)
